The standard duration of studies leading to the award of the Master’s Degree (MSc) is four (4) academic semesters, including the period required for the preparation of the Master’s thesis.
The maximum allowable duration for completion of the Programme is six (6) academic semesters, granted for substantiated and significant reasons, upon the student’s request to the Coordinating Committee (SE) and approval by the School Assembly of the School of Medicine.
A student may request a leave of absence for justified serious reasons only once, for a minimum of one (1) semester and a maximum of two (2) semesters. The leave is approved by decision of the School Assembly, following the recommendation of the Coordinating Committee. Semesters during which the student is on leave do not count towards the maximum duration of standard studies.
At least two weeks before the end of the leave, the student is required to re-register in the Programme to continue their studies with the full rights and obligations of an active student. Students may terminate their leave and return to the Programme only if they have requested a leave of two consecutive semesters. Applications to terminate the leave must be submitted no later than two weeks before the start of the second semester of the leave.
The duration of any leave or extension of the study period is reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis by the Coordinating Committee, which submits its recommendation to the School Assembly of the School of Medicine.
